Passing through San Francisco on our way to Sonoma we had to stop at The Stinking Rose. If you love garlic and can't get enough, this is the place to stop. We didn't have reservations and were seated upon arrival by a very friendly man. There is outside seating available with heaters, but we opted for indoors due to the breeze and it being a cool day. Greeted by Meniko (sp), she was fabulous and so very patient with us. We were indecisive and she offered a few suggestions that were helpful and made for a great lunch. We ordered the Garlic Lovers Fettuccine, 40 Clove Garlic Chicken, baguette with the garlic- pesto dipping sauce and a few glasses of rosé. Of course, we had to try the garlic ice cream and honestly, it tasted like plain vanilla to us, but it could also have been because we had A LOT of garlic for lunch and it was all just blending in at that point. We truly had a fantastic lunch here and if garlic isn't your thing, there are options that are garlic free. Street parking only by meter and it was busy when we arrived at 12pm. We highly recommend a visit to The Stinking Rose! Cheers!

Theres nothing better than a truly authentic old school dining option in SF. The stinking rose is an awesome spot to check out in north beach for a unique dining experience with great service. Our waiter told me the wall items are over 40 years old and haven't been changed since the originally installation when they opened. The food is delicious and their garlic ice cream is better than it sounds!

Had a nice solo lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. I was seated promptly at a small corner table and greeted by very attentive service, which was great throughout my entire meal. Someone always made sure my water was topped off and checked in not too much but just the right amount. A place where they make everything with an insane amount of garlic they also have a unique decor to go with the theme. Definitely a sight to see. I ordered the sea bass with rose garlic lemon sauce and garlic mashed potatoes. The sea bass was wonderfully cooked and the sauce, despite being a strong garlic sauce, didn't overpower the fish. I wasn't a fan of the texture of the mashed potatoes but the garlic flavor was very savory. I wanted to try the garlic ice cream with chocolate shell but not commit to full dessert size 3 scoops! So the waiter let me have one scoop on the house! It's a unique combination but the garlic didn't overpower the ice cream. The chocolate helped cut the savoriness of the ice cream to make it feel like a dessert. As a sucker for cheesecake, I ordered the crème brûlée cheesecake for my full dessert. The cheesecake was rich and creamy. It came with an espresso power dusted whipped cream which was good but not needed. It took a way from the cheesecake and crème brûlée notes. The Stinking Rose is definitely somewhere I'd eat again. They have lots of things in the menu, from seafood, to pasta, to steak, and chicken. For garlic lovers, it's a must try establishment!

Loving their new location as their outdoor patio reminds me of Paris on a sunny day. Their cioppino & sea bass has always been my premier choice with their seafood never being overdone, retaining it's bouncy flavor profile. Pro tip: Order extra bread with their garlic, relish green sauce Thank you Jose for the wonderful service. As soon as I parked my car, he got me a table under 1 minute!

Garlic lovers will feel right at home at The Stinking Rose. We met friends from out of town, and the restaurant's garlic-themed décor and menu lived up to expectations. We started with Bagna Caldo, a rich garlic-infused olive oil with fresh bread, followed by garlic-stuffed dumplings and mussels, both flavorful but not particularly unique. For entrées, we chose chicken Alfredo and fettuccine in garlic sauce, both delicious, with the garlic sauce being a standout. The service was fast and attentive, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. This restaurant stays true to its theme, offering a fun dining experience with bold flavors--just be prepared for plenty of garlic!

I haven't been back to this place since they've closed down and now reopened across from its previous location... up until last night. Booked a table on Resy for 6 people a couple of days before. Everything was pretty much open and there was no wait either once we got there. We were immediately sat down. A garlic lover's paradise is an understatement. Food was excellent. I recommend the Bagna Calda, Caesar Salad (i know! But it was one of the best I've had), the potstickers (who knew?! at an Italian Restaurant??) Cioppino - IMO was excellent, but it not having much broth was a bit of a disappointment. Torte - my favorite dessert amongst the 3 we got Tiramisu - light and yum Misses: Ribeye - nothing special about it Seafood Fettuccine - literally the Cioppino with noodles All the servers were all nice and friendly. The place has a good vibe! Food 4.5/5 Service 5/5 Parking situation -5/5 lol All in all. Loved it! I don't know why it averages 3.5. Definitely a must try SF restaurant.
